New York City
Photographs From Around the City
This photo was taken on September 19, 2001.
Notice the flag on the
building above the tree. But I would like to point out the while truck
in the photo. That truck is a mobile fiber optic splicing lab.
In case you do not know, fiber optic cable
are used for extremely
high capacity communications of telephone and data networks.
The area of Lower Manhattan that was destroyed happens to be
the most densely concentrated square mile of data cabling in the world.
I saw that same truck the day before driving
in the ground zero restricted area.
Undoubtedly, the men in that truck had been working many hours to
reestablish telephone and data communications to many of the
buildings in the financial district of the city.
(How do I know this? For starters, I knew
about the truck because
I install fiber optic networks myself. Secondly, I heard about the
efforts of Verizon on the FOX News Channel.)
